
September 3, 2010 – The New England Junior Huskies and The Middlesex Islanders are proud to announce that they have entered into an agreement to merge operations. The combination will further both organizations goal of being one of the premier developmental and competitive hockey programs in New England providing a unique platform for players to develop from “cradle to college”. The new organization will have over 425 players competing in all 5 premier New England hockey leagues – the Eastern Junior (“EJ), Empire and CHA Junior Hockey Leagues and the Eastern Hockey Federation (“EHF”) and the N.E. Woman Hockey League for the youth teams.
“The Islanders are very excited about the future that collectively, these organizations can provide for the players, families and hockey community. This opportunity leverages a great deal of history, experience and resources which we anticipate will have a positive effect on our constituents.” said Francis Murphy, Director of the Middlesex Islanders.
“This is an exciting time for both organizations,” said Leo Gould, President of the New England Huskies. “Both have worked hard to establish themselves in their respective leagues and combining resources will strengthen those efforts to provide a superior hockey program.”
Both organizations will maintain their team identities for the coming season. More information regarding the new organization will be forthcoming.

The Middlesex Islanders are pleased to announce the hiring of Stephanie Wood as the Director of Woman Hockey Operations. Stephanie’s playing career includes four years of D1 experience at Northeastern University where she was a two-time captain and helped lead the Huskies to two Hockey East Finals appearances. Prior to attending Northeastern, Ms. Wood attended the renowned North American Hockey Academy in Stowe, VT while competing in the Canadian National Championships. Most recently she attended the 2010 Sr. National Championship in Green Bay, WI (March) where she led her team to a Bronze Medal and finished second in the nation in scoring.
Stephanie has a Bachelor of Science with honors from Northeastern and completed her post graduate work under a full fellowship from Boston University. While at Boston University, Stephanie managed BU’s Athletic and Recreation Center. She has an extensive background in fitness, strength and conditioning, and elite athletic training and continues to act as a fitness specialist for the university teaching a variety of classes.
Stephanie brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience at some of the highest levels of female hockey and the Middlesex Islander’s Board s thrilled to have her join our program. In addition to coaching the U12 and U16 Blue teams, Stephanie will be the first, full time, Director of Woman’s Hockey Operations and a resource to the entire Islander’s program.
